The Taiari River, the second-largest river in Otago, flows over 280 km in a near-circular path from its source in the eastern Otago uplands to the sea. As a key focus of the Department of Conservation's Ngā Awa river restoration programme, efforts are underway to restore the Taiari and 13 other New Zealand rivers in partnership with mana whenua. This brochure summarises a 2023 report by GHC Consulting, which compiles research on climate change impacts and risks to the Taiari's freshwater ecosystems. The full report can be accessed via the web links provided. Ongoing work aims to better understand risks to the Taiari catchment while advancing projects to enhance climate resilience and protect biodiversity.
