Taiko Road Managed-Fill Landfill
Project Outline
The project involves transforming a historic limestone quarry into a meticulously managed fill site. Unlike a conventional landfill that accepts various types of waste, this managed fill site strictly prohibits organic and household waste. The landfill will provide a safe and secure disposal solution for contaminated land and commercial waste for many decades.
Upon completion, the innovative approach of the proposed managed fill will beautifully restore the quarry to its original shape, effectively erasing the current scar on the hillside. The project also involves restoration and protection of local and culturally significant rock art. It will also restore and protect an adjacent wetland, ensuring its long-term well-being and ecological vitality for generations to come.
